Living Local in Cannon Beach: Events, Festivals, and Things to Do

By Katcina Smith •

Living in a coastal community means belonging to a place where every season brings something to celebrate. Cannon Beach is one of those special spots where neighbors become friends and the rhythm of the year is marked by festivals, markets, and traditions that have been bringing people together for generations.

Seasonal Celebrations and Events

Throughout the year, Cannon Beach comes alive with community events that celebrate the coastal lifestyle. From summer beach gatherings to winter holiday traditions, there is always something on the calendar. The rhythm of life here follows the seasons, and locals know exactly when to gather for the best celebrations.

Farmers Markets and Local Food

One of the great joys of coastal living is the access to fresh, local food. Farmers markets in Cannon Beach and the surrounding area bring together local growers, seafood purveyors, and artisans. It is the kind of place where you get to know the people who grow your food and the stories behind each product.

Things to Do Any Day

Beyond the special events, daily life in Cannon Beach is filled with simple pleasures. Here are some favorites:

  • Haystack Rock: one of the most photographed natural landmarks on the West Coast, accessible at low tide
  • Ecola State Park: stunning coastal headland trails with views of Tillamook Rock Lighthouse
  • Cannon Beach Downtown: art galleries, bookshops, and nationally recognized dining
  • Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site: south end access with picnic areas
  • Cannon Beach History Center: local history and the famous Cannon Beach sandcastle
  • Hug Point: a short drive south with sea caves and a seasonal waterfall on the beach
  • Arch Cape: quiet beach access a few miles south of town

Family-Friendly Fun

Cannon Beach is a wonderful place for families. The beach is the ultimate playground, and the community events are designed for all ages. Whether you are building sandcastles, exploring tide pools, or watching a holiday parade, there is a sense of safety and welcome here that makes raising a family special.

Places to Play Pickleball

Pickleball is growing quickly across Oregon, and it is always worth confirming court availability, and hours with the city,or facility, before heading out. Here's where to play in and near Cannon Beach:

  • Cannon Beach Park: 207 N Spruce St, near downtown. Four outdoor asphalt courts. Free, no reservation needed. The Visitor Information Center loans out equipment at no charge.

What's Happening This Week

As of the week of October 13, 2026, here is what is on the Cannon Beach calendar:

  • Crave The Coast, all through October. The month-long North Coast food trail has Cannon Beach dining rooms going all in, with seafood specials and ticketed Crave dinners at spots like Pelican Brewing. October is the tastiest month of the coast calendar.
  • "Tree Stories" at the Cannon Beach Gallery, through November 1. The community gallery's October exhibition is up now with regional artists' takes on trees and the coastal landscape, a bright, unhurried stop on a rainy beach afternoon.
  • Gray Whale Watching Season, October through December. Southbound gray whales begin passing the north coast this month, and the headlands at Ecola State Park are among the best free seats in Oregon. Bring binoculars on a clear day.
  • Cannon Beach Treat Trail, Saturday, October 31. The downtown trick-or-treat favorite returns on Halloween afternoon, with costumed kids hopping from shop to shop and the whole business community joining in.
  • Stormy Weather Arts Festival, November 6 to 8. The town's signature fall arts weekend is just around the corner, with artist receptions, talks, and fresh gallery shows filling the studios.

Fall is Cannon Beach at its coziest: the crowds thin, the light turns golden, and the calendar stays full of reasons to wander town.
